supermoon boy

apparently it's super moon time (or it was a few days ago)

when the moon is closer to the earth and appears as big as an orange in the sky (a big orange)
i didn't realise this, and i didn't see a huge big super moon, but plenty of other people saw it ...
over new york, in rio, off the coast of queensland, and they all took photos
and photos
by coincidence, this morning i heard an interview with the heide curator, spruiking a forthcoming sidney nolan exhibition, and talking about the "famous moon boy motif"

i must say it's nice to put moon boy and super moon together
An exhibition highlight is a recreation of Nolan’s famous Moon Boy motif, originally painted on a monumental scale on the roof in 1941-1942.
(apparently, seeing moon boy of the roof infuriated the raaf because they said it looked like japan's rising sun - it was the middle of wwII - he painted over it to avoid having to pay a fine).
surf moon boy
i remember, years ago, driving up north road, heading west and seeing a huge orange moon hanging on the skyline over ormond.  it felt like the moon would collide with us.
not quite as big as melancholia, but enough to think about... (i remember the scene as more orange, how interesting)
melancholia poster looking like moon boy...
